    Default CCR Service

Hey, as if been reading up on what to do when buying a used ccr I saw that shops offer (at least for the JJ) a 12 month, 24 month and a 60 month service.

What really surprises me is what's included in those services. Changing of O2 sensors, new O-rings, checking the hoses and check valves, service for the 1. stages and cleaning an battery change. That's it for the 12 and 24 month service.

Except for servicing the 1. stages, don't you learn that stuff in your first rebreather class? Is anyone really paying a grand every year to have the o-rings cleaned, battery changed and hoses checked? I thought you would would do stuff like that after a weekend of diving anyways.
If I need to send the bloody jj to a service center every year for that, I think I'll pass on a JJ. That can't be right though, right? I know (or I heard) that at least eCCRs have to go into service at some point, but that sounds ridiculous. How difficult can it be to change a battery on a rebreather? For what kind of service do you guys give the rebreather to a service center?

I've met a few people that prefer it that way. No different than taking your car to the dealer for oil changes.

There are a couple parts on my unit that I can’t service (electronics and the oxygen mav) but the rest is user replaceable and Charlie includes a ridiculous amount of extra oringa in your save a dive kit. Other than that I can do pretty much anything except if there’s something weird I can’t diagnose

"Hello, my name is James. I have been trying to reach you about your CCR warranty. Our records indicate that your warranty will expire soon, or has expired. To save yourself costly repairs, we have an extended coverage policy that we can customize to your needs. I recommend the Platinum plan, for only $795 down, and as low as $85 a month, all covered repairs to your CCR will be paid by the plan administrators, as long as you take your CCR to an authorized service center. Parts may be replaced with used parts of like kind and quality. If you would like more information, please press 1 now."

I've never sent my JJ anywhere for service. They don't officially sell solenoids for user replacement, but everything else is easy, and replacing the solenoid yourself is possible too if you can get the part.

    Yeah, pretty good point.

Good to know that you don't have to send it in and can get just the O-rings. I reckon you don't have to change the solenoid all that often. Thx for all the replies.

The newer Megs are modular. Most of it is user serviceable.

The US government just the other day announced that they'll keep the travel restrictions in place for the time being. So I won't be able to get training any time soon on an American unit. If I could pick up any unit I'd probably be getting a fathom or even a choptima... I've been looking at the JJ for practical reasons since I don't want to wait for another year or for however long this situation is not changing.
