Default Backup light on Hill 400?

Coming back down Hill 400 today I noticed a halcyon backup light around 900ft. It was on and oddly perfectly propped up against the wall, its beam looking as if it was meant as a beacon of sorts. As I reached to pick it up, I second guessed whether it was dropped or left there intentionally. People drop stuff all the time, though I cannot imagine how this would have happened. So anyways if it's yours and you lost it, it's probably still there, but with a dead battery now.

Anyone ever hear of people using backup lights like this as markers of sorts? On the way out I passed a GUE team coming up Hill 400....appeared to be a class. Maybe some sort of training exercise? Or someone just perfectly dropped an backup light while it was turned on I suppose...

Backup lights are often used as "lost" divers on classes.

Maybe someone was setting up pictures with backlights and forgot one?

It seems like it would be a good idea to attach a note on a cookie or tag. Obviously, the OP was trying to do the right thing, but....

Almost for sure from a GUE C2 class that was being taught. That's a pretty standard move for those courses.

My imaginary lost dive buddy (H scout light) must have had a proximity sensor built in. When I swam around the corner looking, it had turned off before I saw it. Our instructor got a chuckle out of it. Being that he's now the COO of Halcyon, I wouldn't put it past him

Nah wasn't clipped to line. I figured might be something like lost buddy, but wasn't sure if that was a thing or not...wasn't part of my training.
