    Default Lafayette Blue News...

I just got a phone call from Mike McCauliffe about Lafayette Blue. He doesn't have internet access, so I'm posting this for him.......

Lafayette Blue is now open for cave diving
However, due to the conditions in the cave, at this time the cave is restricted to Apprentice and Full Cave divers only, no Intro or Cavern Divers! Hope everyone has fun in there....

    Safe diving,

    Rich

    FYI

Viz will be about 15' +/-,with a moderate to strong current. We've been working to get a lot of the line up that is burried in the bottom that has gotten covered over by the flooding we've had over the last year and a half. The line is good from head spring to Trap, with some PVC stakes to get it off the bottom. The T 200' before Stephens 3 is burried and I needed stakes to get it up and mark it well,so please be real careful because it is real easy to miss. When swimming along notice the temperature variations,a lot of spring vents are pumping real hard.

I was talking with the manager and I understand they will allow 12 divers at LB and Madison now also. Much better than only one team at a time. Cindy

I am glad they've been open to discussion and considered extending the carrying capacity

We had a nice dive today in the system and removed quite a bit of junk. If your going there it would be helpful to carry a sack and carry some stuff out when you exit. Just be aware your going to greatly reduce vis in the process. We ran into some old line that was not the main line and it probably needs removing but I suspect it best left to the line folks. I even saw an old line in the system at the short land bridge right before the river. The parks looking good with a lot of new paint and Mike was very helpful answering questions.

Thanks for mentioning it,but you are right about old line. Most of the tangle of old line was removed,in some instances 4 sets of lines, but may have missed something in the low viz.
