    Default Florida Keys Diving

Hi All, Have not been here much lately, work getting in the way of diving...oh well, and speaking of work here's a link to a survey we are piloting to measure diving demand for artificial reefs in the Florida Keys. Did a poll here a while back and found that a lot of cave divers are also wreck divers.

So we would really appreciate your help by filling out a survey if you have made a dive in the Florida Keys in the last year or so. We will randomly choose one research participant from the CDF to receive a $100 gift certificate from the dive shop of their choice (this is instead of the Intova light mentioned in the survey).

If you are in the survey please don't use your browser back button as it will cause you to exit the survey. At this point we are in need of the data to see that our models can be estimated. To be entered into the drawing you will have to give us back your email address. Everything is anonymous and the survey has been approved by the university IRB. Thanks and appreciate your help. Sorry Bill, but I have been advised to limit my sodium intake, and although I am not sure of the amount I will get from osmosis through my skin, I may swallow some water my mistake, so exposing myself to the salts in the water just sounds risky. And, then I would have to hose off my gear.

I'm not sure the terms of use allow discussion of swallowing and hosing off of gear in the same post. Oh wait, we allow butt-mounting and penetration....nevermind....

And Bill, I did the survey. I'm not sure you really needed to know how many midget clown videos I watched in the last year, but I answered as honestly as a girl can.....

Shirley you're not serious? No, I'm not, but do stop calling me Shirley.

Shirley, little people videos is hypothesized to be the best predictor of futue dives, especially if involved in a barroom tossing event. I will send you a copy of the results. Bill

John, you hit all the dangers, I recently dove both the Spiegel Grove and the Vandenberg...not only did I have to endure salt water in the mouth and wash gear afterwards but I had to endure attacks by jellyfish on deco....jellyfish dodging was not fun, only got splattered once but that was enough for me. Then there are the lionfish but that's another story. I clearly prefer fresh water caves but then it is hard to construct an artificial cave that is fun.....I am thinking about jb this weekend...its a special day at CA. Bill

Bump...So far we have had 20 research participants from cdf fill out a survey...If you have dove in the Florida Keys over the last year or so I would appreciate it if you would take the time to fill out the survey...we will be randomly choosing one of you to receive a 100 dollar gift certificate from the shop of your choice if you provide an email address at the sign up for the prize drawing at the end of the survey...right now with fewer than 20 entries the expected value of a completion is about $5 for about 10 minutes of your time...

If you qualify please fill out the survey...the purpose is explained on the first page of the survey. Thanks. Bill Huth

Thanks to everyone who completed a survey. The survey is now closed. My colleagues and I presented a paper on the preliminary results this past weekend at the Southern Economic Association in Tampa.

We randomly selected an email address from one of the completed surveys for the $100 gift certificate and an email has been dispatched to the lucky winner.

    Thanks again for the help.

Thanks again, Bill. I hope the survey data helped. I'd be excited to see what you came up with.
