Terrible news. Some people have no concept of what's important
roadkill
The construction of the Highway between Cancun, and Tulum broke into many small caves, and nobody seemed to care. At least two different landowners "enlarged' the entrances to their cenotes to make room for more paying cave divers![]()
I saw that on the news this morning. Sad that nothing will come of it.
"Is this thing on?"
I just saw this on BBC's website and besides being angry at the guys that demolished it I thought of two things quickly in my home state of Florida.
One, how many Indian burial mounds (and trash/midden mounds) were destroyed in the early 20th century to make roads around Tampa. I grew up hearing about many, and that went on even into the 70's with I-75.
Also, Perico Island, between Bradenton and Anna Maria Island, had been a large early Indian community that even the Smithsonian studied. It sat mostly empty for generations until about a decade ago and then condos started sprouting up all over it and who knows what was destroyed.
common practice here too... landowners plug holes, highways do, people with garbage, tourist projects destroy caves to make them "nicer" somebody believe they are nice if they look like a shopping center made in concrete.
