    Default Video Technique

I just completed a nice dive in JB with my buddy Mark. We were both diving Megs and I was trying out a new video system for the first time. I clipped off the camera rig and we scootered to p.2900 to swim the Sweet Passage area. Once the scooters were dropped, I deployed the camera rig and began videoing.

Now to the purpose of this post: My hat is off to all of you who manage taking good underwater cave video, from people of Becky Kagan Schott's caliber, all the way to the "amateurs" whose videos I've enjoyed over the years, here and on YouTube.

Managing buoyancy on a CCR, watching PO2, and managing even a small rig like mine is a daunting task. Fun, but challenging. I haven't seen my raw footage yet, but I'll be surprised if it's any good. This will take some practice. But there's another excuse to dive!

Not that you're asking for tips, but I think this is rather useful

I had a similar experience, but I started at the cavern entrance and was on oc side mount and it was still a challenge.
I rigged my gopro to a camera tray with light setup and it was challenging to say the least and of course the flow was ripping, I think I'll go back to my helmet mount.. :+)

add cave awareness. So many times people are focused on their camera and subject, that they lose track of line, antisilting techniques etc. I know of an situation where a team was so intent on photography and postioning the model, that they were in a different cave passage before they knew it. Someone with keen awareness recognized the line went to #18 twisted, and they had started on #24 braided.

Agreed. Awareness is just as important as the rest. I'm limiting myself right now to familiar locations, but even then, I've got to be on my toes. Most of my video so far has the line in it for good reason.

Gary, is that a helmet mounted video or a tray setup in the Hole video?

What video light do you use? I'm using an iTorch 5 with a Sony HD 15 (I may have the nomenclature off a bit). So far so good. I've got to learn how to edit now.

Gary, was the lead diver using an UnwaterLightDude light and you as well? Cool video.
