It's not the years in your life that matter, but the life in your years.
I'll second JamesK's endorsement. I take one of these on every dive. The light it produces is perfect for reading gauges or wet notes without having to use your primary for the task.

I was very picky about what I wanted for a mask light. I wanted it to have a wide enough beam to use as a 3rd back up and with enough power. At the same time I wanted it to be able to go to a low enough setting that it would not hurt my low light vision when doing survey. I tried a number of different lights and could not find exactly what I wanted. Then Frank at Cave Adventurers gave me a an Intova to try out. I have had tried a number of them that I was not happy with but this one fit the bill perfectly. It is small and light weight yet with a powerful and wide enough beam to work as a back up (actually used it this way). The low setting is just right for survey and low light working. I don't know the model but it takes two 123 batteries and has the on/off/light level switch in the back of the unit. It does not have strobe or any of the extra crap that we don't need in a cave with a black body. Frank @ CA will know the exact model
Sounds like the compact to me. I didn't go for the tactical because on high the compact reaches out far where the tactical is still more flood like. On low, the compact is perfect for survey. Unlike some, unless im scootering or surveying mine isn't on. I got several hooked on the compact last year, even tho its metal you dont notice its there. If I just surveyed only, I would like the tactical a bunch.
I've got two of the tactical's mounted on my helmet, I wanted a flood pattern and on low, one is great for up close work, but dim enough so it's not a bother to leave it on.
I agree the Aquatec Dive mini is a good light. I have 2 on 2 different masks.
I have had very poor luck with mask lights when recording survey data, because either the beam isn't where I want it to be (function of inability to get my head where it needs to be) or the beam isn't bright enough to illuminate what I need to see. I have found two solutions that I like to use. If I move my primary light to left hand, since I am right hand dominate,my light is angled to the right and illuminates my slate etc. Something else that works good is a white cylume stick close to what you are working on. They actually produce quite a bit of light, evenly spread over an elongated area, similar to a flouresent bulb.
