Default Hole in the Wall (Downstream Tunnel)

Did a 2500' double stage dive yesterday at Hole in the Wall in the Downstream Tunnel. Vis was beautiful with just a small/negligible amount of particulate in the water for about the first 1600'. After that got a little milky with a decent amount of particulate in the water in spots, and after about 2300' the vis went to about 50' or less with a good amount of stuff in the water.

There are a lot of fin marks in the clay bottom, which is sad, but it is still the most beautiful cave I have been to thus far. I would definitely recommend having your buoyancy perfect before venturing into this system, since there are a lot of drop-unders between domes and the bottom is silt and clay. Also, the water is REALLY COLD (I'm as wuss), 66 F and some parts have a legitimate thermocline if you drop to the bottom of the cave.

thanks for the report. if you think that's cold for Hole, go back in a few months when the pond is 40 degrees and Hole is 60.

I have been in hole when the warmest water you can find is 60 and when you swim through the 60 degree water it is so warm you feel like you are swimming in piss. The coldest I have seen in hole is 55-56 but I don't really dive hole that much so it may get colder than that

The marks in both Hole and Twin have increased over the past year or so. It's pretty sad.

What no rebreather, or did you mean dropping off two bailout bottles?

No, the rebreather is getting re-built at the moment. I HAD to dive OC unfortunately. That is why I only made it to 2500', I turned at 1/4's. Plus I carried the stages the whole dive, I was really worried about dropping them anywhere and screwing up the cave any worse that it already was. If I was on my rebreather, I would've looked for the champagne bottle .

Yep, HITW is lacking good places to drop stages. Sorry you had to dive OC

Ya, ya, all 3 of my rebreathers are in some stages of re-build at the moment. I meant the main unit is getting re-built. I have other rebreathers for different types of dives.
