Default Better / Best Time in the Year to Visit Cave Country?

I'm looking for an escape - is the Thanksgiving week a good time to hang around cave country, or should I wait until the Christmas week?

I was diving at Ginnie on Thanksgiving day last year. We had the place all to ourselves.

January. The water feels warm and the crowds are minimal.

I did my sidemount class in January. Freaking 55F air temp made me want to stay in the water!

But, that was a plus, and I have warmer undergarments, now.

We go every year in February and October, 3 weeks each. October is past the worst of the heat and humidity, and February is usually nice. We have had a few mornings below freezing in February (and a little snow once) over the past 6 or 7 years, but compared to Vermont in February it's tropical. A couple of times in February lots of the popular caves have been flooded out, but we've never had any problem finding plenty of places to dive, and most years conditions have been great. And of course the caves are the same water temperature year round. Part of the reason we go when we do is scheduling around other stuff in our lives, but February and October seem great.

October and March are probably the nicest weather. I took apprentice in January... Diving wet... And camping. It was in the 20s at night... It wasn't as much fun as it sounds.

Jax, let me know if you need a dive buddy. I'll dive with you.

Looks like another CDF Social at New Year's this year - keep that in mind.
