Steps at Madison Blue are Slick!

Last Sat., I took a nasty fall on the steps at Madison while carrying a 104 down to the water. Fortunately, I sustained only a bad bruise and a cut on my head where the tank bounced up and hit me. Only a few minutes later, I saw another diver with BM doubles fall down the last couple of steps and I see that he has posted on the Deco Stop that his foot was broken.

My only point is that these steps are literally as slick as ice and have to be approached very carefully. If only I had run a continuous line (rope) from a large fixed object....

Wouldn't you know it: "Steps" at Madison are out to get me! The steps out of the water will, according to your post, break my neck and the steps up the hill will break my heart.

Love Madison, but would rather walk out at Martz Sink than the basin as something about those railroad ties that just don't match my pace and normal steps. It's the only dive site (other than Mexico) that really gets me winded by the time I get to the parking lot.

So, no problem avoiding those slippery steps, as I'm getting out at Martz.

The railroad tie steps dont fit anyones legs. Well maybe Bob K's. A wirebrush on a cordless drill is a good idea.

Suggest some ideas on what could be done to make them safer,and volunteers to complete a project. This is the ideal time to do something since the regular swimming traffic will diminish as winter approaches. I am presently working very closely with the park manager that oversees this park,and would be happy to walk this project through the process. Realize the state has some stringent requirements ie replacing wood can't be pressure treated with copper or arscenic. If what is there can stay,but some type of means of allowing more grip attached to the slick steps,this will get faster approval.

some of that tread topper stuff - like sandpapery? we have some on our (wheelchair) ramp that's stick-on, which wouldn't work of course, but are there other types?
