    Default Lobster in the Eye?

Okay, was I hallucinating or was there a lobster at the bottom of open water in Devil's Eye? If it wasn't a lobster it was the biggest crayfish (Head to Tail about 8") I've ever seen. Not a Florida Spiney, but one with claws.

Yes, you were hallucinating. Probably the result of loss of blood flow from a combination of having to mortgage your home to afford to dive at Ginnie, and swimming through clouds of beer infused redneck urine in the Devil's run. Either that, or it is one of those flashbacks that we were all warned about years ago.

pretty big crayfish, but they can get big. I forget what the biggest ones are, but it sounds like you found it! There are 55-58 species of crayfish in florida. Here's a link to an illustrated guide:

I saw one several years ago at The Elbow in Jackson Blue (p2,400') that was about 10" from tip of claw to end of tail. The only one I've ever seen more than about 100' in.

If JB has them that big I'll start carrying my speargun with a powerhead for protection when I dive there!

Yes, the big, brown lobster-like crawfish regularly go about to where the goldline starts. I never see them farther in; this is why I was startled to see one so far back.
