Default Suwannee River Rendezvous Spring Hoppin' Poker Run

    Hey Guys,

I think this would be a GREAT event to attend and wear a cave diving shirt to. It's $10 to enter, and you go to the following sites, getting a poker card at each one-
    1. Lafayette Blue
    2. Telford
    3. Peacock Slough
    4. Running Springs
    5. Bathtub Springs

There's free shuttle service to drop you off upriver. Not 100% sure that landowners of all these sites will be present, but this is an excellent chance to make a good impression. Suwannee River Rendezvous is a great place to grab lunch/dinner and/or camp, they're very friendly to cave divers. I'm sure landowners talk, and these landowners are "on our side", so let's support them.

    Sept 18, 2010

    828 NE Primrose Rd
    Mayo, Fl 32066

    Prizes are awarded at 6pm.

There's also a cleanup coming up soon as well (forgot that date). I'm going to try my best to make these events. Every one of us complains about sites getting closed, well here's our chance to leave positive image. I had a conversation with the site manager (maybe owner?) and he'd really appreciate us attending. He has a very positive opinion of cave divers and isn't shy about sharing it, let's pay it back!

    Thanks!

    Sounds like a great idea.

If I didn't have plans, I would join in.

Is there a direct link to this info on a website? We need more details, what time does this start, who is sponsoring this, (RR), any qualifications above intro level (I'm full cave but some of my dive partners are intro, or appentice level), is this actual diving or just visiting each site. More info please.

Starts at 9am (if I remember correct, I'll check). No diving other than peacock, all closed sites and not really friendly to anything other than full cave. I'm not going to dive but rather to make a good impression on landowners.

    Sorry about that.

Telford is a decent cave for Intro, but maybe best served for apprentice/full at this time due to how few people dive it. You do have 3 gaps, but they're across open water. It's shallow, has some challenging parts, and exposes divers to minor peculation. It's a great cave to start with if you're wanting to get a bit off the beaten path. As long as you surface in each sink, it's within standards (or just gap it ). As long as you stay in the waterway, you're not going to get any complaints from the landowner. He's cave diver friendly, just doesn't want to accept the liability. No mad redneck marching down the bank with a gun here (but you WILL get that down river at one of the other larger springs!)

This is a poker run, you'll canoe from each site and get a card. They're also doing a cleanup soon. I don't think you'll get much more information on diving the caves along the river in that area without asking people in private. The lines aren't always in great shape and zero viz exits aren't uncommon.

There's no rules about just canoeing and diving what you find....it's kinda fun
