    Default Chamber facilities South GA

In this day in age when you depend on certain chambers to be able to recompress divers, and get shipped somewhere else,it is discouraging and endangering our health. To let Georgia cave divers know, and those traveling home northward on I75 who should experience symptoms, there is an excellent chamber facility in Albany GA,with a physician on staff that teaches hyperbaric medicine and extensive experience with recompressing divers. Hopefully you won't need the service, but I have made it a point to know what chambers are reliable and those that aren't,because I can't always rely on the medical system to be unfalliable.

    Kelly,
I assume that DAN is aware of this facility and would refer divers to it in the event of an incident?

DAN still refers people to Shands, but Shands for different reasons won't recompress divers and sends them to Tallahassee. This represents lost time that treatment could be started. DAN does a great job,but being aware of different situations can be helpful in an emergency

Has anyone tried to point this out to DAN?

DAN was told by the chamber people of their adjusted schedule. They will still take divers M-F bankers hours. Kelly where is that chamber? Is it closer for those diving in the Cathedral area to go there or Tally?

I hope so. Not to reopen a thread that occured recently, there have been a couple cave divers who have gone to Shands, and even during daytime hours, and have been sent to Tallahassee by Shands. I know DAN was made aware because there have been some vocal people about it. I am sure DAN is under obligation to send someone to the closest medical facility since it is a medical emergency, but unfortunately what happens when you get there is out of the hands of DAN. I am not recommending anybody deviate from the paradigm that has been established, but knowing what I know now,I am an informed consumer and will make decisions based on this. Since most of my diving occurs in NFL,and typically symptom onset is delayed for DCS,I am glad to know there is a chamber that will service me on my way home, and I felt compelled to let other cave divers know. Safe diving everyone.

Cindy,I know of a specific incident where a diver got bent at Ginnie, and got to Shands during "banker hours",and was shipped to Tallahassee. I don't know all the specifics, but this was somewhat alarming to me,and this represents delayed treatment time.

If you are diving the Cathedral area,I would say Tallahassee is a close drive down HWY 90.
