I just installed a pee valve in my dry suit. The problem is I can't relax enough to use it. Anybody have any suggestions. Ill even except snide remarks.

I just installed a pee valve in my dry suit. The problem is I can't relax enough to use it. Anybody have any suggestions. Ill even except snide remarks.
They can take some getting used to. Try a 'practice pee' on the surface before you begin your dive, or even before you put your gear on. Also, some find that it's easier for them to pee if they stop swimming and sit still.

Depending on the type of valve, you may NEED to pee at the surface to "prime" the system and ensure you're able to use it at depth. Hydrate well, relax, and enjoy! As Brian said, it helps many people if they stop momentarily to get things started. Stop and enjoy the scenery for a bit, think about all that water flowing over your body, and aaaahhhhh! Good luck!

I had the same problem when I started wearing Depends on a dive. It just goes against everything you were taught for years not to do! Stopping, relaxing and thinking got me over that hump. I still can't piddle on the fly....still have to stop and hover. To say the least, my late buddy use to razz me big time over that...."I know what yer doin'....."

I have no qualms at all with peeing on myself, this is a problem when I forget I'm on dry land :/
I can pee anytime, anywhere so I can't offer any much help. My wife had a little bit of difficulty when she first started using the she-p but she just hydrated well and took a minute or 2 to convince herself it's ok to pee when standing up in her drysuit and then whammy, it just happened. After the first time I think it was smooth sailing after that.

Well since the topic is open, is it better for the valve to be installed with the hose going down (towards the foot), or up?
