The CDS is going to sponsor a free TAG Social and Dive in northwest Georgia on Sat. October 24th 2009. Activities will include a cookout, campfire, door prizes and cave diving at a very special TAG area dive site, Craig's Mill Blue Hole. The cave at Craig's Mill is relatively short but is vast in size and is unlike anything else in the area( or Fla. for that matter). It is normally closed to cave diving so this is a special opportunity to dive a truly unique site.
The specific venue, dive information, and directions will be posted on the CDS website as soon as they are finalized. Camping and lodging will be available nearby. This social is being put on for cave divers in the TAG states(Tennessee, Alabama, and Georgia) but all cave divers are welcome, even the Florida guys. Come join us on the 24th.
Craig's Mill is a big sinkhole. The main tunnel is over 500', average width is 200', depth at the back is just over 100', average passage height is 50'. Visibility averages around 50', I have seen it as much as 100'. If it rains, it never drops below 20'. October is usually pretty dry, though. Temperature is around 58 degrees.

Hmmm, sounds like the place, but last time I was there (about 14 years ago) the water temp was 52 degrees and the depth was much deeper. Also I remember having to saw a tree in half which was blocking the "dual tire track passage" and navigating several 4' deep mud holes to get there. Oh yeah, the percolation was considerable during the exit, but then again we didn't stick too closely to the main line route. And don't forget those BLACK walls. When you swim across the basin it looks like your swimming into the mouth of a skull. All in all it's certainly an adventure!!!

    Have Fun,

The drought has lowered the water level a lot. There are still deep spots, but not along the main line. Percolation is still an issue, and I make the circuit, so I don't have to backtrack through it.

The new owner has cut down all the trees along the road, and put in a gravel driveway over the low spots. It is actually pretty nice now.

I've told the wife and she has not said no

Looking forward to seeing everyone there. I think Sam is going to try to make it too.

    Cheers,
    Jeff

Someone PMed me about guided dives. We can provide guides, but the system is pretty simple, and once you find the Grim Reaper sign (about 40'-50' deep), it is a continuous circuit, going all the way around the one big room.

Is there some more info on the TAG event in general? This hole sounds interesting, might have to come up for the weekend.

Forrest and I are working out the details now. As soon as we have them finalized we will post them on the CDS website, as well as on here.
