    Default St John's River crater

There is a crater shaped depression in the St. Johns's river at @ channel marker 41 about 60' deep. Does anybody know anything about this? Diveable/clear under the tanic river water?

Complexities for diving the site are surface current of @ 1.5 knots and alligators. Anybody know how deep a gator can dive?

    Any info appreciated.

Don't know about the crater, but may be worth looking at.

About the depth gators can dive, a *lot* deeper than I used to think. I didn't think they could get over 10 or so feet, but I have heard reports of much deeper sightings.

I found a blog that mentions Nile Crocodiles reaching depths of 60 feet in Lake Chamo in Africa, but that information hasn't been verified.

Most alligator attacks (90%) occur near shore in wading depths and at the water's edge.
75% of attacks occur during the mating season from March to September.
    84% of victims are male.

However, these statistics, can easily show that people are more likely to swim or be in the water during warmer months, that more people spend more time in shallow water or at the edge of water than in deep water, and more males are likely to participate in actvities that will place them in proximity to alligators.

The odds of being attacked by an alligator in FL are 1 in 24 million - 1 million better chance of winning the lottery.

Also, don't forget about the danger of bull sharks in fresh or brackish waters.

I don't know much about alligators, but did some Internet searching out of curiosity. The facts I posted for fun came from this site: http://www.crocodopolis.net/lwa_safety.htm

    Cool So Bill ? ?

Let's do that little hole in October when it's getting a little cooler. Is there any boil on the surface?

There is a person named Ken Roop. He told that he did a special dive to film gators hunting fish from the tanic water into the clear water of the cavern of Croaker Hole in St.Johns, Little Lake George which is about 50' deep.

BTW why not to use poor man ROV? Cam on a rope works great in questionable waters.

Something like this might work, with a pretty small investment

I take it your not talking about croaker hole? Thats the only place I have dove in the St. Johns and know of no other but who knows. There were a few manatees in croaker when we dove it but they hit dark water when we hit our lights. On a sunny day at 6 ft I was in the dark, thats some brown water.
