Green Cove Spring

Was at town hall today and walked over to look at the spring,which feeds the swimming pool there.It is very tempting but I try not to break any laws so I was wondering if anyone here has dove it or knows anything about it.Its a nice 78 degrees and should be explored,mapped etc.Too bad they couldnt do like Jackson Blue and let the police dept.(across the street)moniter access.Or maybe its not worth diving,Id love to know.

I work for the Clay County Sheriff's Office and the only people that dive it are our dive team. They pretty much just get in it to recover the change. My buddy said they got about $500 out of it about two weeks ago. As far as the way it looks he said there is a small opening and said it looks like its pretty tight several feet back. Been trying to talk them into letting me try it out, but I can't do SWAT and the dive team. I'm curious if it comes out into the river. I'm trying to talk the team commander into getting the team cave certified and it looks like they might do it due to going up under those river banks in Black Creek can you believe the y get up in there with out a reel. I told them they need to at least get intro certified.

There was a story- a few years back when someone else checked into it, no names. But on did hear that Sheck was in there at one time. The details im sure someone remembers.

I have dove the spring many years ago and will tell you that it is "tight" and gets deep fast. I was told that Wes Skiles dove it a number of years ago for survey. If my memory serves me correctly it drops to around 170' and is a sidemount entrance that opens a little once inside. I have tried for a number of years to obtain permission to dive again but the city manager (Don Bowles) wants nothing of the sort. I was a lifeguard there back in 98 and got lucky to dive it.
