A post about a dive plan at Buford has reminded me about something I have been meaning to post. The last time I went to Buford I noticed a large amount of damage around the entrance of the sink. It looks like divers either resting on or grabbing on to the limestone at a depth of 5 to 20 feet have broken off large chunks of rock around the mouth. I don’t think we need any more reminders of how important buoyancy is in these fragile systems and that if you cant keep off the rocks then you shouldn’t be there yet.
I don’t know of anything more that needs to be said or if it can be said.
This post may just be an exercise in futility but for some reason I take the Buford system rather personally. Its one of my only nice local dive sites and it represents something we probably wont see again in our lifetime.
