    Default Damage at Buford :(

A post about a dive plan at Buford has reminded me about something I have been meaning to post. The last time I went to Buford I noticed a large amount of damage around the entrance of the sink. It looks like divers either resting on or grabbing on to the limestone at a depth of 5 to 20 feet have broken off large chunks of rock around the mouth. I don’t think we need any more reminders of how important buoyancy is in these fragile systems and that if you cant keep off the rocks then you shouldn’t be there yet.

I don’t know of anything more that needs to be said or if it can be said.

This post may just be an exercise in futility but for some reason I take the Buford system rather personally. Its one of my only nice local dive sites and it represents something we probably wont see again in our lifetime.

I think it would be good if the websites that give info on how to reach this site (floridacaves, tampadiving, etc) include the information about the fragility of systems such as Buford so people know better when they get to the site what they are dealing with.
