    Default FYI: Gear Purchase - Phishing Scam? - Anyone else?

    Anyone else receive a message like this? This looks like Phising Scam.

    The original message looked ok and I responded to it. The second one clearly looks like a scam.

    My gear sale was posted on thedecostop.com, cavediver.net and gue.com

    Dear William,

    Thanks for the information you forwarded after an exhaustive discussion with my friend as regards your payment ,he said that Payment will get to you in a US bank certified check of $6,000 , He explained to me that there will be a little delay of about three to four days because this is a refund payment expected from a company ,it has to go through their usual official documentations and approvals before the refund is issued out to him.

    Please you have to bear with us,financial matters like this has to go through the right process, though he confirmed that your payment will get to you as soon as possible.I advice that you remove your ad from the internet to avoid further complications, since your payment has already been confirmed.

    After you have received the check you will deduct the cost of your Gears in total ($1190) and keep the remaining funds for my client's Shipping agent who will be coming for the pre-shipment inspection and subsequent Shipment for offsetting shipping fees and other expenses,while title papers and other necessary documents will be sent by you via courier serivce to my client,I will keep you posted on all the necessary arrangements.

    Furnish me with the following details for the payment to be send over to you ;

    1.Full name
    2.Full Address
    3.Telephone Number

    Please confirm this mail and get back to me via email as soon as possible with the necessary informations required from you for onward delivery of the payment to you as soon as possible.Nice doing business with you.
    Regards,

    This is on snopes.com. They will send you a counterfeit cashier's check that will look so good your bank will honor it. You then Western Union them the $4900 "refund."

    Two weeks later, your bank will find out it's a fake and you will owe them $6,000. Western Union will not issue refunds.

    The best part of this is that you need to ask them to send a picture to you for "proof of their validity" with them holding a sign saying "Cavedivers are cool".

    Then after he sends the picture, ask him to send you $20american dollars to prove he is "trustworthy".

    After that send him an email that says "you're just not really ready to help him scam the American banks yet, but it was fun scamming you."
