I've got some that are broken in just the same way. I trimmed off the broken pieces and tied a loop of 4mm nylon line around the strap for a finger loop.

    Default fin straps

Those are definitely not "old style". the old style doesn't have that unnecessary loop. D.H.

Having had both of my knees replaced and unable to to flex my knees past 130 degrees, those "unnecessary" loops allow me to get my fins off easily and quickly at the ladder before getting on the boat. Same in cave diving, getting the strap over the heel of my turbo soles.

    Default Fin straps

    Update Update
The newer strap replacements WILL work on the older DiveRite fins Just had new straps put on mine
I have an extra old strap with the hardware if anyone needs it.
