    Default Pelican LED lights

My better-half gave me one of the new Pelican 3xC-cell LED dive lights as a gift recently. In case you are unfamiliar with these lights, they are essentially the same light as the "Sabrelight" they have been making for years, but are LED instead of incandescent. I have used their conventional "Sabrelight" for years and have never had any problems, and even found one on the bottom of the lake that had obviously been down there for years and it was in perfect working condition. The new one has a really cool way of focusing the light from a single large LED into a true spot-beam. The LED actually fires backward onto a reflector and the light is focused into the tightest and brightest beam I have ever seen from an LED light. I am seriously considering using this light as my front-line backup light, but would like to know what, if any, experience anyone here has had with them. It's a little larger than what I have currently been using, but not too much. Any feedback? -Alan

I had one of the incandecent 3C pelicans and it was awesome. I was working on my satellite dish on top of my two story and dropped it onto my driveway.
It never even flickered, and aside from some cosmetic scratching, was not damaged at all. I have since switched to the mini Q40 for my backups, but I still keep the pel in my truck for emergencies.

    Alan,
The "recoil" line of 1W LED from Pelican are some of the brightest 1W Luxeon LED's out there as well as one of the best buys. If the three c-cell ,model 2010/2020, is too large consider model 2410...the stealth light recoil. It has the same lighthead in a smaller 4 AA batery package.
If you really want to see bright, I should show you a few of my prototype lights....
I have modified a pelican stealth light to accept a 3W Luxeon spot focused LED and I am working on a 7W LED in this body using Lithium non rechargable cells. I also have a working 5W Luxeon LED spot focused in a modified Princeton Tec light as well as two 10W HID versions in this same body using the Lithium non rechargable batteries.
I hope to finish testing these lights and offer them for sale over the next few months. I think that the 3W and the 7W focused LED in the stealthlight 4AA size offers the best bang for the buck with the 7W approaching the 10W HID without the huge price penalty.

Sounds great, and thanks to you both! I like the tremendous burn-times offered by the LED lights plus the color of the light that closely matches that of my HID primary. I'd be really interested in hearing about how your lights turn out. Please keep me (us) posted on your progress! 8) -Alan

    Hey Drew,

Give me a call about your lights, perhaps , if they test out, there could be a marketing opportunity here...hmmm?

Alan...it's a great light. I already use it as my main backup light. I first used it in the ballroom and was blown away by its output.

Heck, I have even used it at a crime scene investigation or two already...LOL
