Default Steel Tanks & Powder Paint ?

I know that aluminum tanks are not to be exposed to a baked on finish, heating the aluminum is a no-no,,,,,anyone know about steel tanks??? I have a steel 72 that I am thinking of having a powder paint finish applied. Anyone have any experience with this

No experience with powder coating, but many steel tanks are "hot dip galvanized.".

If you are worried, you can get it re-hydroed after the powder coat.

Faber (Faber, SP, old OMS) uses a thin spray gavlanize followed by epoxy. Worthingtons use a powder coat, and are now offering the hot dipped galvanize.

Heating a steel tank could anneal the metal making it much more ductile. Not the best thing for a pressure vessel.

It depends on how much it has to be heated, but I would see if the manufacturer has any info.

Know that any alteration such as this does require that you have the cylinder hydroed prior to any subsequant use.
