Default WTB – Faber LP 50

I want to buy a Faber Low Pressure 50 cubic foot tank, hopefully used, with or without valve. I have one, and I’m looking for a second. Over the next few months, I’ll be pushing some sumps in Southern Minnesota; and I dread having to drag my 85s deep into otherwise non-submerged caves for these shallow exploratory dives.

    Perfect tank choice.

You might consider AL 40s, unless you already know the sumps are longer.

Yeah, aluminum 40s may be too small. While I’m unsure how long these sumps will be, I know for instance one that has been pushed but will need to be surveyed is estimated to be 236 feet long. Furthermore, while the smaller size of the aluminum 40s would be nice for belly crawls, I suspect much of any weight savings will be added back with a weight belt. Kirk

True, but most sherpas would rather wear the weight belt, than wrestle with a heavy tank.

Choosing the right size tanks always comes with tradeoffs. There's about a 3-4 pound difference between AL40s and LP50s and if you can get a cave fill then the LP50s have almost twice the gas. Just the amount of gas alone is why I got a couple sets of LP50s as soon as I could afford them.

There's really no big difference in physical size between the two tank types. The bag I make to carry a 40 holds the 50 just as well.

For a 200' plus sump, no matter the carry distance I would take the 50s any day if you can get them. But you could always dive a 40 and a 50 if you can't get your hands on a second 50.

As far as buying, dive gear express always has good deals and the best part is that they have free shipping too, so that's always a great option if you can't meet someone in cave country to pick up tanks.

All this talk of 50s....BUT I want a 45. More common and no one seems to have one. One.

Closer to 5 lb. difference. Without valves - AL40 are 15.3 lbs, LP50 are 19.92 lbs.
