"Men wanted for hazardous journey. Low wages, bitter cold, long hours of complete darkness. Safe return doubtful. Honour and recognition in event of success."
Earnest Shackleton
Looming? It's been here for a while.
Texas has been under a drought, that's why beef is so high.
Even here, a few years back we had a bad 3-4 year drought. Made for good diving conditions, but all kinds of people that previously always depended on well water had to have water delivered in the cubes like they use for livestock. Talked to people whose families had lived in the same place for around 100 years and never had their wells or springs dry up, left with damp mud holes.
Between droughts, and increased demand for ground water, the water level in Australian caves has dropped over 30' in some systems. It could happen here!
Lake Mead is at the lowest level in history since the Hoover Dam was first built.
Ground water from Sacramento to Ogallala is disappearing.
Southern California wants to build new tunnels to pipe water down from the north.

And now the USA and Mexico may get in a shooting war over Colorado and Rio Grande water rights.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
At least that will clarify border security.
