Default New Stairway At Alachua Sink

I made a dive there on November 9th, and I have to say that the new wooden stairway leading down to the water makes for a much easier and much safer entry/exit. The only thing wrong that I saw with its construction was the steps being too small and too close together. Aside from that, I commend the people who constructed it.

Thanks John, We designed the steps so us girls could use them without having to take giant steps each time. OK it just feels giant when I use some of the previous constructed steps. Most women and some small men have to double step to get up and down the current steps at most caves. At Alachua we don't. See what happens when you let a women run things! There is room there to add to the steps at some point. Maybe guy sized steps next to the girl steps would make everyone happy. We need to add a few more on to steps as the water goes down. We are out of money so if you want steps like you are talking about please PM me and I will send you my address for you to send your donation to. Cindy

    Cindy:

It's no big deal. I was up and down those stairs enough times that I got used to it after awhile.

I agree that adding 2 - 3 more steps for a lowered water table would be a good idea.

I wouldn't mind at all making a donation. I've donated to other construction and acquisition funds in the past.

Hey, I was just being a smarty. At some point the second set of steps are in the planning. The ones that are there work fine and are a vast improvement over sliding up and down the hill in the mud. Right now with Emerald and Cathedral steps being built and needing money I don't see a real need to start collecting for these steps right now.
Johnny Richards still needs money for the Emerald Steps and Todd Leonard is collecting for the steps at Cathedral.
I'll let you know when we are ready to add onto the Alachua steps. Cindy

I haven't heard from Johhny but chances are we are very close on the Emerald steps. I am preparing a request for project funding which would help pay for the materials for Cathedral steps, but we'd provide the labor. Any funds for Cathedral would be beneficial for the site in general.

Default After the big one drops

Just think what the visitors from another planet are going to think 100 years from now when they come to see the ruins of human inhabitation, and see those stairs going down into the water "religious sacrafice I'm sure" But it sure beats billie goating like we did in the old days
