Default Line Question: Bone Line/Wonder Tunnel

Dove Ginnie today and we decided to go to the white room. I've never been but have been given a good description of the room and how to get there off of the bone line which coincided with what I pictured in my head.

I used the Hancock map as reference so my map references will be specific to that map. I thought of posting a little snippet with some drawings on it, but don't want to infringe on copyright.

We went up the bone line and as soon as it takes a hard left put in our reel. At that hard left there was a big rock to our right which should coincide with the rock right at the 90 degree turn on the Hancock map. So we put in the reel and headed dead to the right as we were told, basically travelling around the front of that rock. From what I expected that should lead straight to the White Room. We ended up going under a duckunder which pinched off. That wasn't correct so we backed up and went a little more right(basically angling back towards downstream bone line). As we follow more right we come across a gold line on the right hand side of a room. We knew that wasn't right so turned it. We did not inspect up that line.

So basically we don't know what gold line we came across since the bone line is white line. It's possible that somehow we hit the wonder tunnel if that is lined with gold line, but we both seem to think the hard right we took would have brought us nowhere near the wonder tunnel.

So is the line in the wonder tunnel gold? If it isn't what gold line could we have hit. I can't find anything on any map. We would both be shocked if it ends up being the wonder tunnel. Either way we're going to eventually go back and see what we did wrong.

You were close! Next time when you get to the 90 degree turn, run your reel out on a 45 degree angle and you'll run right into the White Room. There is no line in there ( never has been ) so you'll need your reel all the way in. BTW, a gap reel won't cut it. Too short. Take an extra primary to make certain.
On another note, when you get to the 90, if you gap in and go straight ahead you'll come into the Wonder Tunnel. The Wonder Tunnel actually has two entrances so you have two shots at getting in right. Once you find ( both tunnels ) you'll wonder how you missed them!

So any idea what that gold line was? We definitely weren't even close to straight out from the turn. That's why I don't think it was the wonder tunnel. In retrospect the 45 makes sense.

Yep, head away from that corner at what some would call a 45 degree angle. The key is to stay to the left of that large rock. Brent is absolutely right, take a primary reel since there is no permanent line in the white room passage.

If you found a "gold line" my guess is that it was not actually gold, rather it was probably white line that had become stained with age. I have never headed off in the direction that you took, so I am not able to speak with personal experience. It is possible that you ended up coming back at the bone room line, although at this point I am just guessing.

At 50 dives, I thought I had this diving thing figured out. At 100 dives, I realized how wrong I was at 50.

Us too. We talked about it being stained white line, but both swore it was distinctively gold line. But it wouldn't be the first time my brain made me believe I saw something that wasn't there.

I think a re-dive will solve the mystery

When I do e the wonder tunnel last march, it was about 5-10' viz. lots of intrusion and I would also say the line is stained

My trick to finding White Room and Wonder Tunnel is... White Room go over the rock and Wonder go slightly left and drop down next to the rock and run out line from there. It's worked so far lol. I'll be in cave country this weekend doing team dives and a few solo dives. If you want, I would be happy to take you to either.

Default Line Question: Bone Line/Wonder Tunnel

Vis in wonder tunnel is amazing right now.... It is definitely a good time to do that dive.

My trick for finding the white room (before I knew where where it was) was to run the primary right after 90 degree turn at the Steve arrow, then look for the beat up ceiling at about 2 o'clock from the line the Steve arrow was on. Seems like wonder tunnel is at 11 from that position.

I find the wonder tunnel by tying my primary off to the line arrows where the bone line makes a 90 degree turn. Then I look straight ahead and slightly to the right and look for the lone rock that is lying in the cave floor all by itself that serves as a good tie off. From there I run the line straight over to the wall and there is the wonder tunnel line.
