    Default Jugs for buoyancy

    Hi
I'm currently away from my collection of books and I want to cite a book that describes using Jugs for buoyancy control in the early days of cave diving. I seem to remember Exley described it but I can't remember if it was in Caverns Measureless to Man or the Taming of the Slough.
Anyone got a copy handy and can confirm which it was?
    Cheers
    Peter

Several years ago at the NACD seminar, Don Kearns spoke to us about diving back in the 70s. He mentioned the clorox bottles and I believe he had some pictures too - an interesting presentation for those of us watining to the 2000s to cave dive.

I did wreck diving with a group that included some real old schoolers. Althought they gave up the clorox bottles for bouyancy, they cut them open, slide them on their weight belts and used them as pockets to hold liftbags and tools.

Before all our sleek and slick dive gear... There were the, shall we say, clunkier proto-types

    9/11....... I remember .........

I knew a potential diver that had a pair of jugs that seemed to make her too buoyant to be able to do a ditch and don in 15 feet of water and as a result she failed a certification class I was in in the late 70s (YMCA). Since that date it turns out that silicone implants are negative so that the natural buoyancy of the fatty tissue could be neutralized by augmentation...have not seen any references discussing this and never did figure out what sort of augmentation was necessary to produce neutral buoyancy or whether or not those sort of jugs are actually buoyant. Also don't have any idea on the impact on nitrogen loading and unloading from messing around with those tissue compartments.

I met a woman who dove Wakulla (!!!!) in the '60s and used bleach bottles back then.

Land of Enchantment -- not so great for cave diving, but mighty scenic!
