Cool Deep gear recovery & Back mount down Jacob's Well ??

I find both of these of interest & maybe thought provoking !

The deep water scooter snatch is questionable. He was right to let it drop. Diving Jacob's Well with backmounts seems foolhardy, especially when side mount is readily available with the proper training ! I see a lot of danglies & what appears to be gauges & other things to get caught on tight places ! ~ But these are my opinions. Others are welcomed !

I first dived Jacob's well in December, 1973 when I was 16. Wikipedia comments:

The JW video is only going to the first restriction, which would be no problem in backmount. The lights are interesting though.

Whats even better is the lead diver in the first video is diving single tank with a "bail out bottle".

I looked up the author. This video is from Layne Hedrick. He's part of the group call WET.

Is this their video of doing it wrong? Or perhaps its a video of what not to do? I always use three points of contact during caving but who the hell does it in cave diving. Maybe that was a demonstration of pull and glide down?

    Diving Jacob's Well

2: Attempted scooter rescue at 550 ft
    Published on Jun 4, 2012
On May 30, diver's Peter Sotis and Kim Inge conducted a 200-meter dive on the deep wall off Grand Cayman. Assisting on this dive was a team of safety divers, which included 2 divers with Magnus 950 scooters, stationed on the ascent line at 400 feet of depth.

One of the 400-foot safety divers, John Mankat, had his scooter damaged by a careless baggage handler while in transit. This was a concern at the beginning of the dive, but the decision was made to take the chance, and use the scooter. As it turned out, the scooter failed at 400 feet, and imploded, instantly becoming severely negatively buoyant. After being dragged down 40 feet or so, John was able to cut it away, and let it fall down the Cayman wall.

On the ascent, deep diver and team leader Peter Sotis came across the scooter as it tumbled down the wall. The event was captured by the GoPro camera, which was mounted to Peter's rEvo, just over his shoulder.

You can see Peter makes an effort to recover the scooter, but due to the extreme negative buoyancy of the scooter, was unable to hang on to it.

The scooter dive appears accurate ! Jacob's well video only show's the date of being published.

A little bird tells me it's 11 years old. Maybe not worth getting panties too wadded about ancient history.
