Lost Spool and Light

Lost in Ginny Springs yesterday --a spool w/ my name on it if it had not wore off. Finger spool type.
also, lost one of those 6" intova black backup light.

Between Sweet Surprise and the Eye.

Not doing too bad. Day 4 of diving and so far this is all I've lost
only 8 more days to go.

If you're snapping the double ender into the holes of the finger spool, it can pop open when it is bumped. A bit of wisdom I picked up from one of my instructors. It's just the design of the double end bolt snaps, if you torque them, they pop open.

I was taught to run the very last inch of the line's loop thru the side hole of the spool, then snap onto the loop. The finger spool can spin around all day without generating enough torque to open the snap.

There are 2 ways to use the loop. If you pull out a small loop, and use the double ender to clip the loop back to the reel, then the double ender can still open up and drop the spool. If you only clip into the loop, the double ender won't open, but eventually they wear out the loop, and you still loose the spool

I know I have had some "faulty" spools in the past. Passing a loop through the side of the spool is how I do it. However, every once in a while you get a "faulty" spool that escapes and leaves the bolt snap behind any way. The unfortunate thing is, there is no way to tell the "bad" ones from the "good" ones until they escape

haha yep, sounds like my spools. loop is though a hole, double ender clipped to loop.
sometime when jumping in say hmmm orange grove one will always try to escape
well, did 128 minutes in ginny today, and did not lose another one, so i guess i'm on a roll
but bad news is, that 2 other intova's decided to stop working
good thing i got a lot of those old jr rat lights in my pockets

I went to reels, but when I do carry spools, I put them in my pockets. I had one come loose, string out the whole spool and bring me to a stop when scootering, then to add insult to injury when I was recovering the line, it got in the scooter and turned it on, which complicated things a little.
