I have a few questions:
1) Whats a "scam" offer, I'm not sure how an offer can be a scam unless the buyer wants you to hold paper.
-this was my ad cut and pasted from craigslist... anytime I advertise a high dollar item I always get people emailing me telling me they want to buy the item but they are currenly "in Africa and will need to send a check for twice the value of the item and to keep a generous portion of the funds for myself and return the rest in form of a cashiers check"... basically check fraud... so I try to deter them from even emailing me since I won't fall for the scam.
2) 50 HP is the max, but will it take the heavier 4 strokes? or does a 2 make more sense?
It will take the heavier 4 strokes... I had a 2010 Mercury 50hp 4 stroke on it... it was close to the maximum weight limit (250lbs I think) I believe the two biggest issues to watch for are maximum weight of motor and horsepower, as this is essentially a "fabric" boat, and excessive power over time could cause damage to the seams of the boat... after having had a 50hp long shaft motor (as recommended by the manufacturer), I would certainly recommend doing the max horse power again (you can never have too much power!) but I would certainly go with a short shaft, as I believe the manufacturer is incorrect with specifying a long shaft.... we had to keep moving the motor up to avoid excessive water flowing over the back of the transom due to the shaft being too long. By the time I had it properly adjusted, height wise, it would have been better off to have bought a short shaft (15") motor.
3) What do you want for the trailer?
Trailer is $400... new bearings and bearing buddies last summer, rewired with new lights 2 years ago, new bunks/pads and adjusted for this boat 2 years ago. Needs tires soon....
4) How fast does it run wide open and whats the most economical RPM and speed?
the fastest we had seen it on flat open water was around 22-24mph, loaded fully with 2 diver's gear... I've never had an opportunity to run it full out without any extra gear in it... the couple times we have had it on the st. john's river it was too rough to really run it at full speed.
Thanks,
Jon
