Default Solo diving Jug Hole (or state parks in general)

I think most of us know, whether we object or agree, that the policy of state parks is NO SOLO DIVING.

Somebody was noted to be diving solo at Jug Hole. FWIW,if the parks feel this is a problem it would more likely result in you having to either 1)get a pre-arranged diving reservation 2)checking in with a ranger first. In the winter when they cut back staffing this would be a hassle, especially in a large park trying to find a single ranger. For those who don't remember Jug Hole was closed for several years, and it took some effort to reopen-please don't screw it up for everybody else.

I'd love to solo dive jug hole but I'm not an inconsiderate asswipe. Nor am I as polite as you, Kelly. Thank you for being involved and helping to keep access open for us!

Doesn't this happen often at Peacock, too?

Kelly, Glad you posted this. Im planning on heading down to FL this weekend and the though had crossed my mind to venture away from ginnie on Saturday afternoon to hit up Jug. I completely forgot about the no Solo thing in state parks.

So on that note, anyone interested in hitting jug up on Saturday afternoon with me??!

i was recently on a dive trip to cave country and had posted looking for dive buddies on 3 different forums several times with only 2 responses and only managed a couple dives with the 2 fellows good enough to contact me back,i also left my name and phone number on every shop in high springs looking to find a buddy, But one thing i did not do was solo in any place where it wasnt permitted, i did however have to do alot of solo diving as i was there for 14 days of diving and didnt come down to sit in a hotel room hoping that someone might answer one of my posts and actually hook up for a dive. I did near the end of my trip find a buddy to dive with and i had a blast on all of our dives and got to learn alot from diving with this person I personaly understand why state parks are against solo diver because of the sue first mentality but as far as business aspect there would be alot more divers if solo was permitted, or even having a board where people like me could have posted a little memo telling other divers that i was looking for buddies,, i know trying this didnt work! but i know as a solo diver i would have paid dbl to dive(same price as 2 cars) just myself so i could of had the oprotunity to see more systems. The next time i head to cave country i am sure i will make several posts online here only to be veiwed without response yet again but i know of a couple systems where i can do the solo thing until i maybe get lucky enough to find a buddy to hook up with.

A solo diving accident saddles the dive community and the park with a search and recovery problem. A buddy death is only a recovery problem. If I die of stroke or a heart attack in a cave, having a buddy minimizes the park's problem.
For those of us below the Abe Davis level the backup brain provided by a buddy is real safety feature. Having a buddy overrule one's judgement during the dive or criticize one's technique after the dive is painfully humbling, but very salutary.
I generally have an alternate activity planned for days when I can't find a buddy.
