Default Why are we naming names now?

In the sticky that explains the rules of the accident analysis forum, Forrest states that the titles of the thread are not to use the names of the victim, yet, staring with Wes and including Ag, we are now using the full names of the victims. Is this just an oversight that the moderators have failed to catch, or has the policy changed? I don't believe that this is a good idea, whatever the reason. I would urge the moderators to change this in order to protect the privacy of family as well as to limit our own liability.

I'm not sure what difference it would make. If we discuss the specifics of the incident, that is enough to know who is being discussed.

I'm sure FW will reply as well but use of the name in an original post reporting an accident might result in undesired notifications before the information is "public." So when the general membership makes an accident post no name. In the cases of the 2 that you point out do not follow the rules; they were created intially after the public release of names. The accident anlaysis threads were recent developments on this forum to separate out that sort of discussion from a memorium thread. Those were both created by moderators...even though the one starts with a post from duncan it was created by fw when he pulled the first "accident" thread from the memorial thread for Agnes. This is my understanding but i'm sure other moderators will chime in to correct this or add. Bill Huth

According to the sticky, the thread titles are viewable by non-members, that is my reason for concern.

When i am not logged in as a member the accident analysis thread says "private" and you can't see the thread names. Even for members it is best that the name not appear until a public release...when Bruce died in ginnie it was days before the name was released and for good reasons so initial posts just referenced a ginnie springs fatality. There's a good reason for all this and it is not really a liability issue. Bill

Both Wes' and Ag's threads were started on the main forum, with little known information. We did know from the start it was Wes, but the thread about Agnes didn't have a name, until the Australian newspapers announced the name. I agree that the thread shouldn't have the name, until the name is released. So the policy really hasn't changed.
