I told our acting manager and Jennifer Evans today I would post this today so everyone can spread the word before the system is reopened to diving. There is a tree down in Waterhole Sink, the sink is full of branches and a large branch is holding tree up and this branch is close to or is blocking the cave entrance, we need the water to clear up to see for certain and the ground around the sink needs to dry up before permission is given for the tree to be removed since heavy machinery will be needed
for removal and we cannot damage the area around the sink.
So until this is done there is NO ACCESS ALLOWED at Waterhole Sink either from inside the cave passage or outside at the sink. We will post signs all through the park when it opens and would appreciate those of you who read this to spread the word. If the situation was not handled this way it would be much longer for the system to be reopened to diving.
With the sun shining on Orange and Peacock I can see down about 15' along the sides of Orange Grove sink, you can see the rocks in the middle at P1.
The UTC will dive the system soon and will replace some of the gold line in the system while placing the artificial tie offs to prevent future cave damage.
We would like to thank the CDS Section of the NSS-CDS for donating 3000' of gold line to the UTC to use for this project.
Thank You, Janet
