So, I've got this sump project that *requires* silt stakes. So I made a few and figured I could bring them to FL to test them out and see if my design was sufficient. So for my first dive (with FW), I put 4 stakes on my right tank, expecting that after the cave diving in Peacock, I could test them out in the silt outside the cave (no sense marking the cave floor with this for no good reason).
We head in to Crypt, and we get to an intersection. I've never been there before, Forrest points the way. I get a clothespin out to mark the way we've come, and given our positions, Forrest took the pin to clip on and I started back along the line. Moment later FW signals me and I notice the line is all slack and laying on the floor. Hmm, the line must be cut. Forrest is obviously trying to sort the situation. A bit of silt plumes up given the situation. The Forrest makes this hand signal that I instantly understand. With no hesitation, I place a silt stake in his hand and he plunges it in the floor and ties the line to it! After we got out, he said he thought the wall broke off with the tie off when he put the clothespin on the line. Weird, but not nearly so weird as the fact that I actually had a silt stake on me at the precise moment it was needed!
Anyhoo. Somebody needs to go back and fix the line properly. Forrest will probably post up the details.
