    Default New enthusiast question

Has anyone heard of the Dive Rite Transpac Harness? I am new to the cave diving community and want something versatile enough to try both back mounted and side mounted diving. Or at least have the option to choose. Any advice before I start draining my bank account on gear would be greatly appreciated.

The Transpac can be converted to a Nomad and conversely you can use the Nomad XT for back mounted doubles by removing the buttplate, and with or without the Dive rite stabilizer plates.

i highly recommend the transpac, i have been using it for years and recommend it to students both technical and Non technical including SAR , Due to the fact its completely Modular its ability to be configured for each mission. Single, Side mount, Back mount, Etc..

The TransPac one of the most common pieces of gear used by cave divers.

I go to Panama City every other weekend and would be happy to meet you sometime and help you choose gear.

Why would you have to remove the butt plate?

Kyle, I use my original Nomad both with sidemount and backmount. No change to the rig whatsoever. It works great in either configuration and keeps the inflator and dump in the same location regardless of the configuration I'm diving. If there is any possibility of you ever diving sidemount, then the Nomad is the way to go.

You don't have to, but choice is always nice.

Personally, if I go off shore in back mount, my preference is to carry a pair of lift bags and my light under the plate. In that case, If I am using my transpac rather than a SS plate, the nomad butt plate gets in the way. Flexibility is one of the transpac's virtues, why limit it?

Ok, so if you were going to dive with a single tank would you need a backplate?
