    Default Cave diving in Belize

Planning a trip to Belize this summer to do some OW diving with the wife and friends. Are there in divable caves there? Recommended shops/operators?

Last September, I asked a dry cave guide in Belize about diving some of the underwater caves. He told me that it was illegal. Apparently the government of Belize has outlawed cave diving in order to protect potential underwater artifacts.

I don't know how credible this guide was because, as I said, he was a dry cave guide and was not a diver.

What I do know is the underwater caves in Belize appear to be very extensive, very clear, very warm, and extremely inviting.

I don't know what the deal is in Belize, but I do know that the folks at XTC Dive Center in Xcalak have been exploring there (they are very close to the Belize border). They might be able to help you.
