Forrest, TJ and I met up for a 9 am dive at LR.
The weather was perfect and the basin looked fine. Water was a few inches over the concrete walkway and FW had commented that it had dropped at least 3 inches. There was just a slight river tint to the basin. While we were gearing up, lot's of locals showed up for swim call.
The vis in the cave was less then desirable for scootering.I would say 15' was generous. We had planned a quick dive to the Florida room and then get some pictures of the headstone, sturgeon and trash can on the way out and hoped to emove the trash can.
It was a lot of on-off scootering because of the vis. I was trailing and when we turned at the Florida room I kept cranking her down and 1 was still a little fast for the exit in that section, so I swam her out until just past the old deep section jump.
We never did find the headstone and I did not see the sturgeon, but we did get the trash can out.
I tried moving them together and finally tipped it on it's side and removed the actual plastic trash can. I swam it to the entrance, put some air in it and off she went! Some of the local kids snorkeling grabbed it and put it up on the sidewalk.
Meanwhile TJ somehow managed to swim the wooden and steel part up over the first lip. We rolled it up over the second lip. Forrest got it close enough to the entrance and with the help of a few of the little free divers they got it out to the trench. It was pretty cool to watch a couple of the 10-12 year olds diving down to help Forrest swim it out.
We rolled it up to the sidewalk from there. The wood was pretty waterlogged and weighed a lot! I hope the park folks get it from there!
It was a lot more work then I expected!!!
