    Default WTB: Relatively inexpensive computer

I'm looking for a relatively inexpensive entry level tech diving computer for my 19 year old son. He's just getting started cave diving. I think we're talking about something with at least 2 gas capability (nitrox + O2). Trimix is a bonus. It should be in good shape, reliable, and fairly durable. Downloading to PC isn't needed.

Let me know what you are looking to part with and how much you are asking.

    thanks,

    Paul

look for a DiveRite Nitek Duo or Suunto Vyper II or Cobra II. I have dove all three on 2 gas dives and you can usually find them from $300-$500 new and less on ebay.
maybe someone here is willing to part with something also.
If he is serious about expading and going trimix in the future, i would recommend spending a little more to get a computer with those capabilities up front. Look at it this way, why spend $300 on a computer that in a year from now wont have the capability for the dives you want to do? i know a couple guys who ran into that situation (including me).

    Just my opinion here.

    Here is my take !

Thinking of getting a trimix computer is ok.....but here are some considerations. Assuming you start with your Open water you might want to wait a year before moving to more advance diving...I believe one requirement for Trimix is Advance Deco. Again, supposed you waited one year and then take the Advance deco....it takes you a year to complete.

Now go for your trimix in or about year 2-3 and all sudendly you need a trimix computer.

Well here are the facts if you have bought a VR2 three years ago...thinking on using in the future for Trimix.

-The algorithms have changed , you are stock you can not upgrade. Repetitive dives are now longer deco.
-You find out it does not really support Trimix (O2< 21%).
-The $$$$ money you paid never really paid off becuase you did not dive trimix.
-The UK company bearly recalls making that computer
-The world best upgradable system, never out of date computer has now passed out.
-You can not even find accesories for it anymore.
-Any bugs or defects on the programming are now your problem because the computer is not supported.
-Well what about upgrading to a VR3 .....no way you have to pay full retail again.
-Selling your VR2 sure I will give you $300 only if it is color (I'm serious)

By the way....I have for sale a DiveRite Nitek3 (downloader, screen protector asking $330).

Thanks fellas. I'm a CCR diver diving an X1 computer. I'm all about forward capability for myself. For my son, I'm interested in something reliable that is easy to use and understand. I'm much less concerned about the couple of hundred dollars that it might cost to buy a new computer should it become necessary.

Then this sounds like a good deal.

So Velasced... did you own a VR2? I am not denying that they were a P.O.S., just never knew anyone who owned one.

Nitek HEs can be had for less than 500 bucks if you keep your eyes open.

    Paul,

The Nitek Duo is also the same as the Zeagle N2intion. That will help with your search.
