Buford Spring is a large, beautiful cavern and a great dive. It is north of Eagle's Nest in the middle of no where. You have to cart your gear down a trail, then suit up and walk through the swamp. However, during the dry season it may not be bad. I went last February and the swamp was dried up. You have to know someone who knows where it is located otherwise it is easy to get lost in the woods. See this link:

Regarding Alexander Springs--don't bother. It's basically a pond. It's good for training open water divers and maybe trying out new gear, but that is about it. Maximum depth if you stick your hand in the main boil is 26'. After two minutes you have seen it all. Plan on bringing a picnic so your trip won't be a total loss.

Not only that but the sheer amount of sand in the water WILL get into everything.

Have you tried Peacock 3? I am not sure about the park rules, but it has a big cavern, just a little dark, compared to Orange grove.

I'm not sure if it's an agency rule or my instructor's personal rule, but I was taught no siphons at the cavern level.

As for Madison, we were just there with a cavern diver. Two of us were full cave, and asked the ranger if cavern divers were allowed. He said no problem, but I'm not sure if that's because we were along or not...

I was also taught no siphons at cavern (actually I was taught no siphons until after full cave and more experience - may have been my instructor's preference, but I thought it was a good idea and stuck with it...).

Sheck Exley always took his cavern classes there, and I took several of mine there also. It usually isn't much of a syphon. Cow cavern is also a syphon, and a lot of cavern classes go there.

The big question is, "What are the park rules for certifications at P3?"
