Default Gordneck sink in Lake Apopka?

Whats Gordneck sink in Lake Apopka like?
is Apopka Blue Sink and Gordneck sink the same place? is the system map listed under Apopka Blue Sink on www.tampadiving.com correct for Gordneck sink which is located in Lake Apopka ?

Where is the map for Apopka Blue Springs which is closed for diving by the county?

    Thanks!

I looked at the site you mentioned in your post. The first post is talking about Blue Springs, not Apopka Blue or Gordneck. At neither place will one see a Manatee, or go for an open water check out dive. At Gordneck in Lake Apopka the viz is mostly in single digits and as the other report states full of gators and it is a good idea to bring ear beer as to clean any part of your gear or body that was in that water. While an effort is in place to clean up Lake Apopka there is still a large amount of run off form the muck farms and other industries. Remember it was not long ago, in my life time, that one could see the bottom of that lake from the surface.

Apopka Blue is a sink hole in Apopka that is now owned by the city and is off limits to diving at this time. I have heard that the people who live by it call the police if they see a vehicle heading that way and that the police do respond very quickly.

    Default REcent info

Rodger and I dove Gordneck not too long ago. The water over the boil is very green you take a boat a Mudduck would be best or a Flats boat, to the south west corner in a little culdasac look for the boats there is usually fisherman. It is about halfway into the neck. You will see Hundreds of large Gar and we did see a gator or two so it would not be a bad idea to have someone in the boat to ward them off. What you do is take a mushroom anchor on 30ft of rope. Drop the big anchor in the shallow water out of the boil then back the boat to the boil and drop the mushroom straight down. IF you are luckly like I was you will drop the mushroom right into the hole.
Follow the rope Striaght down feet up. You are going into the loose hole in a peat mass and it is important that you don't disturd it if possible. Your rope might go over a large log that crosses the hole at about 20ft. suddenly the water will clear and you can see the hole. You should find my line tied just inside the cavern and going down to the restriction at 80ft or so. If you are side mounting with two 85 or smaller you should be able to slip in without moving to much debis. Watch out of fishing hooks and broken bottles. On exit go straight up your line. Good luck have fun and be safe.

    Curt:
Sounds like you and Rodger had a better dive than I did, but I have not been for over a year or more. Hope all is well with you and you had a nice Christmas.

It was an "interesting" sounding dive, for sure!

Thanks for the info everyone. I would still be interested to hear from someone that made it past the 1st major restriction.

    Thanks!

Some things are better seen and done for one's self.

Maybe you should get access to a boat and venture to Gordneck yourself.

I say this because part of the joy of cavediving is not knowing everything about a cave / passage prior to going in, it's what makes it more enjoyable.
