Well, if there is any way we can be of help in this repair we are more then willing.

Unfortunately, giving money to the project isn't an option at the moment. (The only diving I've done in the last year was done on "free" nitrox and if I had any money I'd have paid my CDS dues this year).

Default is there a lawyer around

I agree, we should sue. Money can fix a lot of things. If we can hire someone to fix this problem, and if we can identify the individual who caused the problem, we can sue for punitive damages. Is there a lawyer amongst us who would take on the case pro bono?

Hmmm, we could dismember and disembowel him, and sell the body parts on the black market. Oops...did I say that out loud?

I’m guessing the damage to the floor was done by a scooter. I think we have to be responsible for the effect we have on nature, regardless of intent. Whoever is responsible for the damage in the Hillier tunnel should have their scooter certification revoked, and pay for repairs.
Have you seen the letters/notes written on the floor of the Hillier?

    Default erase now!

let me reiterate: when initials are left for all to see, then others assume that's the place to leave their initials too. erase them if you want to prevent more from being "posted."

good people, fully aware of conservation, may not see adding initials to a wall of initials as a violation of conservation or as destruction.

    -skip

Skip is entirely right. We've seen this in dry caving, if an area already has graffiti or trash it just seems to attract more. It's like the existing defacement becomes a justification for doing what they know they shouldn't be.

Very often a cave will stay clean for a long period after a cleanup. Then a few spots get tagged, a few weekends worth of trash are dumped and it goes downhill rapidly from there.

Smoothing those back out, while it will never be original, is probably preferable to leaving it as-is.

Is there any way that we could erase both the initials and the individual who did it? A two for one not to mention we might get a better deal.
