When I get out of cavediving, it will be to learn how to use a walkerFW
I took a close look this weekend, and any refacing needs to be done by an artist, or it would be worse vandalism than the initials.
We have a volunteer, but he lives in IL. Does anyone want to contribute to a fund to fly him down for a weekend?
I'm no artist but I live in Gainesville and have repaired those clay banks from (much smaller) damage before. I heard there was a plan to bring in an artist last year but it has yet to happen.
For that matter Kathleen is an artist... she lives in Gainesville also.
I would donate to whatever is needed for the repair.
I talked with Kelly on this before. A long time ago there were another set of initials in the clay. It was just before the rock collapse. I don't know the year. My dive buddy and I repaired it by taking some loose clay, dropping it into the spot of the clay and smoothing it out with a sponge. Don't use a trowel or knife because the clay will be too smooth and slick looking. It doesn't do a complete fix. Mother nature took about a year before it couldn't be noticed again. Cindy

"PY" I have met TJ, you better pray he does not find out who you are. Great guy, but I sure as hell dont want to be the one to piss him off. Oh by the way TJ, do you think you would be available for a dive on Friday December 5th? I'll PM you the details later. I dont want to change the topic of this thread.

I have all the necessary paperwork and affidavits to make the case, all I need to do now is write a cover letter and drop it in the mail to Suwannee County Sheriff's office, then it goes to the States Attorney. Some people have been very generous in providing photography of the vandalism, and pre-vandalism pictures, investigation,as well as expert testimony on the features which are not observable to the public in general. When the paperwork has moved along I may ask for help from the cave diving community to redirect your outrage to the prosecuters who will have the case,to show that although the crime may only be punishable as a class 1 misdemeanor,we consider it more. Thanks everyone

There is much talk of fencing the site on the on another thread, which implies that the vandals sneaked in rather than registering. Is this the case or did some surface vandalism also occur? If not, what does the one have to do with the other?
Sorry, but I'm a bit confused. Maybe I didn't read close enough, but it sounds like you have identified a suspect? This being the case, I'm curious as to what evidence you were able to ascertain to proceed with a formal complaint to the sheriff’s office. Also, what is a class 1 misdemeanor, and what is the maximum punishment?
