Hi
yes, the France is a "little paradise" to cave and to cave diving. We have all sorts of caves, springs, with one sump or with several sumps, deep or not, with easy access or not, etc...!
The main areas are
- in south/west of France : Dordogne and Lot.
- in south : Herault/ Gard
- in middle east : Jura/Doubs/Ain.
(mountains area, with very cold watters and with the most part of time a very poor visibility)
- in south east : Var/Alpes Maritimes
- in the Rhone vallée : Ardèche and Drôme
Some other places are also very interseting :
- in the north center : Cote d'Or
- in the south center : Charente
The two main mountains area, Pyrénées en Alpes are also full of sumps, but generaly with a very hard access, and generaly deep and far in the caves.
And at least some places like Haute Marne, Meuse, Indre.
We have some very deep spring like :
Fontaine de Vaucluse, 315 meters and dive around 250 m
Goul de la Tannerie (Ardèche) dive to 220 m
etc, etc...
More than 40 springs 'd been dived with some depths between 100 and 200 meters...!
And certainly around hundred cave'd been dived with some depths between 60 and 100 meters...!
We have also very long sumps or very long multi sumps srpings.
By exemple, la Doux de Colly is 5900 metres long, with one sump and wih some passages with 80 meters deep...!
Or the "Bestouan" is 3000 meters long....
Some 40 sumps 've a length between 1000 and 2000 meters...!
You can found some full informations on this web site (in french...) : http://www.plongeesout.com/
and after you've to go on "Sites de Plongée" on the left side.
You'll have the map of the France with all the areas.
After in each area you'll have the caves and thes sumps, with pictures, survey, etc...!
And you can take a look at this web site with some nice pictures of french sumps :
http://r.huttler.free.fr/
And at least you can take a look on the web site of J Meynie, a fench deep cave diver, with an english version... :
http://snoopyloop.com/
After that you'ld have a little idea of the French cave diving...!
Best regards.
