Canoe for sale
O'leno State park has six alum. Canoes for sale. I don't know how long they are but they are just like the one I use for diving. They are selling them as a fund raiser for the CSO. Call the park or contact Harriet at friendsoleno@windstream.net. They are a bargain at $150 each.

Canoe diving

I've thought of river diving using a canoe, but always concluded that there wouldn't enough room for gear and myself, let alone with another diver. How do you make it work?

I am not sure about a canoe, but we have had 3 divers and scooters dice just fine out a of a 16' gheenoe. For some reason I feel that the canoe might have more room though.Originally Posted by Serota
Big Al canoes are great for river diving. My buddy and I do it all the time on the Chipola, fits two people, plus tanks, gear, oxygen bottles, stages, and ill bet you could do scooters if you wanted, but we havent yet.
I've done it in a small canoe, about 14' long. Two divers with a set of tanks and O2 bottles works out just fine. I bought an inflatable boat to tow behind when we want stage tanks only because the canoe sits low in the water with the rest of the gear. I just bought a jon boat, though, so the canoe is put away until needed for smaller runs or the shallow stuff.

My canoe is about 2 feet longer than the ones the park is selling. I can fit three divers, 6 sidemount tanks, oxygen tanks and gear. I usually just sit on the gear in the middle and the guys paddle the canoe. Always put your gear in a bag just in case you do tip it over. A bag of gear is much easier to find. It hasn't happened to me but a friend of mine hit a log sneak diving at night and managed to tip his canoe. He could only find his tanks.

Great idea. I also inflate my BC, and clip it to the bag.
Canoe
I drove over to Oleno and picked up a canoe yesterday.
The Oleno State Park staff were great helping me load it up on top of the truck.
If anyone needs a photo of what it will look like I'll be happy to help out.
Thanks again for posting this canoe sale.
We can't wait to get it in the water... just waiting on the paddles to come in.
