    Default Cave conditions?

My friend and I are supposed to be going to cave country on Monday. He is going for caver/basic cave and I am already basic cave. I am curious to see what the conditions are like. Should we cancel our trip? We live in Virginia so it's quite a trip and it would suck to get down there and not be able to dive. Any information/recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

    thanks,
    Ryan

Why not just call your instructor and ask? They would know what systems they are planning to train you in. Not all systems get blown out from the floods.

I'd second the contact your instructor if you're going down for training.

Just spoke with him and it looks like the trip is a no go. I'm used to getting blown out on ocean dives, getting blown out in caves is new. Not much can be done though. I'd definitely rather be safe than sorry.

    Thanks for the suggestions!

I think I like your instructor, only an honest person would cancel a dive he could make money on!

Get used to a lot of the FL caves being questionable around/after hurricane season.

How long do they usually stay blown out following these types of floods?

    In 2004, I remember a major flood.
Even Ginnie was closed for a long time.

I was supposed to go down for Labour Day, got cancelled because of the hurricanes and ended up going down around nov 15th.

Peacock just openened up and vis was around 20 feet ...

The good thing was, all the good diving after the floods. Once the river got down, it was nice to see the flow up again. Most of the systems recovered their pre-flood features pretty fast. It's saddening to see in which shape Little River was this year with the drought.

Hard to say. The springs hadn't totally recovered from the March flood, when Fay came through. This one wasn't as bad, so maybe they will clear out faster......I hope.....
