Default Some caves are starting to go

I was in Peacock 1 today, river intrusion up th mainline. P1 is not siphoning (yet) but it's looking pretty bad.

Madison will go in a day or two if it's not gone already.

I'm curious how that can be. The link you provided does not indicate any flooding in the area, and the real time level maps also don't indicate flooding. Also the forecast maps don't indicate flooding in the area. Where is all the river water coming from? Has the River already backed up the slough to P1?

Maybe my mask was just dirty

I was actualy helping take water samples today, they were analyzed on the spot for disolved oxygen, the elevated levels confirm it's river intrusion.

For those looking at Madison, go to the link I provided and look at "Pinetta" there's a mini sunami on it's way to Madison.

Hehe, I don't doubt you, but I was hoping to understand where the water was coming from. Was the slough backed up to P1?

    It was not!

When I looked at the surface pool at P1 it was worse than it has been so I walked to P2 to see if flow was going toward P1, there was none. But when I dove in it was obvious there was a change happening.

I talked with an instructor that dove yesterday and he said the upper half of the cavern was clear water (stratified) not today, the whole caven is pretty bad, top to bottom, and it doesn't get much better down at the bottom of the fissure.

Interesting. I know when I was there a few weeks ago, the cavern was looking worse rather than better. How was the situation once you actually got into the cave?

Thanks for the updates and info.

    Mike,

I get there in 2 weeks time. Make sure you've given them all a good scrub before I arrive!!
