    Default Cool presentation

Hey everybody there's an updated presentation by Jeff Bozanic, NACD Accident Analysis Chairman, about accident analysis in the new millennium on the NACD website. Here's the link:

An older version of this is also on the IUCRR website.

That was quick. They decided about it at the meeting on Sat night.

Looks similar or same to the one he presented at the last NSS CDS workshop.

    Good presentation.

    1) I've mentioned this once to a guy who was pulling together an updated report a few years ago, but must not have taken. I'd like to see a chart that shows what caves have had the most deaths. Just out of curiosity. Maybe we could rename the #1 spot as "Killer cave" or something. Maybe even a seperate chart that breaks out the years if a particular location started seeing more deaths more frequently.

    2) The report mentioned challenges in getting accurate data, timely reports, etc. But one thing is the reporting of the reports. I know of one incident that was reported but still has not made it to the IUCRR site. Right after we hear of a death, the first thing everybody posts is "let's not speculate, but wait for the report to be published." Well, in at least one case, we're still waiting years later. What else is everybody supposed to do? The reports are of interest because we are all taking this risk. We read the report and say "you know . . that could be me one day." But of course we hope not. Nobody goes into a cave hoping to die. So don't anybody say something stupid like "well, he died doing what he loved." Trust me, I'd much rather forego a day of cave diving than die doing it.

I'd rather be killed by a jealous husband 50 years my junior after 50 more years of cave diving... but I'm sure that's just me.
