Thanks for the help,
I would recommend Atomic Aquatics regs.Z-2s'I love mine, service every other year.
Three suggestions, for three different reasons:
Best breather, cost is no object: Scubapro Mark 25, G-250V. An advantage is you can get them serviced at more places than any other brand.
Best new reg, where cost is a factor: Atomic Aquatics Z-2.
Best breather for the buck: Mark 10, 15, or 20 with a 1985-1997 G-250 off eBay. I've seen these (and bought them) for under a hundred bucks a set.

i would recommend the Dive Rite RG3000s used to be the RG2500s. Great regs used them for year down in Florida and in the Northeast wreck diving. You can abuse these regs all year and they will still keep going and you can get them serviced pretty easy or you can get you own part kits for them and do them yourself. They are priced right and lifetime warrenty on parts if serviced my a dealer.
Where do you dive? Can't beat Salvo for local service if you're near High Springs. And frankly ANY modern reg is fine - I use aqualung titans because if they can survive dive store rental usage, they can survive anything. And they can!
Stay cheap and simple. Avoid Apeks like the plague - complex, finnicky, expensive.

I've heard many good things about Titans. What is wrong w/Apex in your opinion? Isn't the SALVO/DR/Scubamax...SeaElite first stage the old Apex design? I think it is pretty generic except maybe few nice improvements w/second stage. I love my XTX50 is probably the best easy breather reg i ever had (a also possess bunch of DRs and Oceanics). Apex excellently works in a facing current (i would say the next best to Poseidon second stages). The only drawback is that it is twice mor expensive as Titan. After all they are both Aqualung![]()
I love my Posiedons but many folks hate them. The favorites now seem to be the the 3000 DR and the Atomics. Never heard a bad thing about either of them.
If cave diving were Star Wars, who would be Yoda?
Alot of it depends on where you live and what you can get serviced there/or parts for to do it yourself.
What is available where you live? If you let us know, the list will be narrowed down significantly. Otherwise, you'll get as many opinions as posters!
For me, due to where I live, the shop I use, and what I can get parts for.....my choice is the Mares Abyss.
If they're both set up the same, yes.
If they are tuned the same, the VIVA will kick in harder in the larger body. For some reason, technicians usually set the S-600 lighter to make up for this. But the 250 can be set just as light. So in the big picture, the G-250 and G-250V are the best breathers. Note the G-250HP is conspicuous by its absense - and the HP actually stands for High Performance!
