Never had a deep computer dive, but last Sunday I had a malfunction. Once I made the turn I began swimming a little faster to beat the deco clock, I know I was swimming faster than on the way in, but just how fast was confirmed at deco. I took a glance and found out that I pulled 6G's on the swim out, and my duo proved this. 6G was the actual data on the screen and nothing else. With this swim speed I will save $3500.00 since I won't need a scooter.![]()

Forrest is right. As I said in a previous post in this thread, I went through 5 Aeris Atmos II & Savant computers in a very short period of time, actually around 7 years ago as the Savant went with me on my first trip to Akumal come to think of it.
I had 2 Aeris Savants....both malfunctioned and were exchanged, the second Savant was exchanged for the Atmos II as they weren't making it anymore. I then went through 3 Atmos II's. All of them were having the same error issues.....they would either have me on bizarre fictional dives, and be fine after, or they would have me on fictional dives and then simply cut out and quit working. They usually had their little issues after only a few dives. Thankfully.
When the last one did it's little dance of the sugarplum fairies, I went to the shop and said take this piece of poop back and give me something by a different manufacturer. Aeris didn't want to give the shop another RA number and the shop had to fight for it. Aeris maintained the last computer was just "fine now and tell her to keep it, wink wink". The last one was the 750 footer in my livingroom. The shop got nasty with Aeris and finally gave them an RA number and me a shop credit.
I ended up buying the only other type they carried at the time, the Mares M1. That computer, ugly and bulky with only numbers a kindergartner's eyes can read has been a workhorse and never given me a bit of trouble. The manual is totally wrong, translated from Italian, and totally useless. I figured out how to use it by trial and error zipping through the different settings, but finally figured it out and have been using it all along.
Well, my 40's loomed large and no longer having the eyes of a kindergartner, I had to do something.....I bought a Nitek Duo. I'm on my 3rd one of those. Similar issues to the Aeris, that it simply stopped working and the display became segmented. The one I currently have is working fine, I've had it since Dyson worked at DiveRite.....he replaced it for me twice and Duo #3 is hanging in there. When Dyson replaced it he said they knew they had issues and this last one was from a newly manufactured batch. He must have been right, because it's still working nicely. (looking for wood to rap on......)
So, long story short, I dive the DUO as my primary, and the Mares M1 is in my thigh pocket along with vinyl folding Navy air and nitrox tables. AND I have magnifiers in my mask to read the freaking tables and the mini digits on the M1 if need be!!
And years ago, when I first started diving, before Nitrox, I had a Suunto air computer masquerading as a Tusa Imprex computer crap out on me on an open water dive at Ginnie Springs.
No way, would I own only 1 computer......gotta have two, and they have to be different manufacturers. And don't forget those tables, as they don't malfunction.
