    Default Conditions

Myself and about 7 other divers are planning on making the drive down from Kentucky/Indiana area next week. With Gas Prices what they are I was wondering if we could get a NO B.S. assessment of the caves in the area i.e. Little River, Orange Grove since it just opened back up, Madison, Jackson. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    Default Conditions

I myself (being from the South) do not tell stories with BS in them but I have been known to.....well stretch the truth. No stretching here though:

This report is from 2 weekends ago.

    1) Little River
Water in the basin is down
Merry Go Round Circuit to Florida Room and 300-400 ft from there.
Flow is moderate at some points stronger than other points
Flow has decreased from 3 weeks ago
Visibility is 40-50' maybe more on the straight sections

Gas prices were 1.85 near the intersecetion I-10
A litle into town 1.63 and back up to 1.89 out in the country.

    2) Madison Blue
Entered at Martz Sink swan to 1500' exited at Rabbit Hole
    Clear water great visibility
Flow mild to moderate depends on the area
Fun dive....I am already missing it.

I haven't Been to Ginnie to crowed
Orange Grove just opened reports on this forumn

    Hope this helps
Both systems definately worth the drive plus with Orange Grove opening up...Ginne during the week followed with Manatee and posssible a night dive at Cow. And last but not least a scooter run up the river and night dive Telford.

Flow reports are based on my own personal opinion and as Mark H always tells me 'there is no flow at Ginnie...' I think he is skip breathing or has gills in his heels but that is another story for another day

Maybe I should have been a Travel Agent.

    2) Cow: 40' Viz, tannic. felt like lower flow than normal
    3) Madison Blue: 50'ish viz, more tannic than normal. not much flow
    4) Hole in the Wall: 50'ish viz, blue, not tannic (perfect)

Go to the Millpond. See if you can rent the 10 man house that Cave Adventurers rents. Get a couple pontoon boats and enjoy the pond. No gas expenses driving from site to site.

Perhaps it's $1.85 per half gallon? I saw where they said folks with pumps that didn't go high enough on the price per gallon were having to set the pumps to half prices then double that to get the final price.

2 x $1.85 = $3.70 would be much more in line with current prices.

Jackson Blue has about 80' or so of visibility. Flow was 115 million gallons/day last week per the guy measuring it. It's swimmable, but there are certain areas that require a little pulling.

Twin is pristine. Great visibility all the way through.

    Hole 40-50' visibility.
